Overview
The Southampton to London Pipeline (SLP) Project is a critical infrastructure undertaking that stretches from the Fawley Refinery in Southampton to London Heathrow. This project involves replacing an aging 90-kilometer pipeline with a modern, efficient system designed to ensure safe and reliable fuel transportation from the south coast to London.
EFL has been an integral partner in this endeavour, working closely with SCTW and ESSO over the last few years. Initially engaged for Vegetation Management and Site Clearance, we quickly expanded our role to encompass comprehensive Project Management and land Reinstatement Services.
Details
The project faced considerable challenges, primarily due to the adverse weather conditions. The construction element took place during winter and an unseasonably wet summer, which resulted in substantial disturbances to the land. Restoring these areas to their original state required meticulous planning and execution.
Following SCTW’s completion their portion of the works, our team moved to working directly with ESSO. This phase included several critical tasks, including the construction of access points, re-surfacing of highways and public footpaths, dismantling of site compounds, fencing, and landowner reinstatement.
Oliver Gill | SCTW
My experience of working with EFL proved they are a professional outfit with capability of dealing with both small and large scale clearance works. Their teams provided a professional service that stretched beyond their ability to undertake vegetation clearance. The project required close liaison with Landowners other 3rd parties, which the team managed capably, and are a real asset to any project they undertake.
Summary
A standout aspect of our involvement in the SLP project was our ability to demonstrate self-sustainability and efficiency in all operations. Our team managed the entire process seamlessly, from ordering materials and coordinating plant use to traffic management and road sweeping. Our approach ensured minimal disruption to the landowners and restored the landscape to its natural state, supporting agricultural productivity and maintaining the integrity of the surrounding environment in both rural & urban areas.
By leveraging advanced machinery and collaborating closely with partners like ESSO and SCTW, we were able to achieve remarkable results and demonstrate our capability as a one-stop shop for infrastructure projects.
