Overview
In May 2022, EFL undertook a very special project with the SMP Alliance Team from National Highways and local school Nightingale Primary.
As part of a community outreach initiative, we joined forces with the National Highways SMP Alliance Team to help deliver a wish list for a local primary school. The project, named Woodland Walk, involved volunteers from both National Highways and EFL to provide the school with a much-improved woodland learning space.
Improvements to the woodland space included an all-weather footpath, customised miniature chairs, wooden benches, and a bug hotel. The materials used where repurposed from a nearby ongoing project, and created by hand by our skilled Arborists who volunteered their time to the initiative.
This project later went on to win an award during the National Highways SMP Alliance 7ogether Ceremony for Enriching Communities. This initiative is an excellent example of teamwork, and how our schemes can deliver a positive and lasting legacy for the local communities we work in.

The resources provided, including a bug hotel, all weather path, and various planters, have been beautifully made and will support and enhance our wider curriculum whilst also enriching our termly Season Watch days. The additional seating areas also allow for this space to be used as a further learning space where staff can teach our pupils comfortably and effectively within the outdoor woodland environment.
